bust pc
« on: April 08, 2010, 09:20:17 AM »
i'm on g jnrs new laptop cus my pc is broken. im struggling with this thing tbh and keep turning it off and keep losing the scroll down facility, so BEAR with me.
G jnr couldn't get on the internet as he was being asked for a netwerk security key.
Having rebuilt this thing only last saturday,i assumed this must be summat i needed from aoHELL.
Rang them up yesterday pm, and hey presto, sorted, and G jnr a happy jnr BEAR!

However,my pc wouldn't log on due to no wireless signal.RANG aoHELL back and after a bit of rummaging told me that my ETHNER port or summat like that is goosed.
Now I know this had been the main cause of me not being able to plug in this wireless thing three months ago, so on saturday my mate told me to go and get a BELKIN sticky in the back of the big box thingy stick to enable us to wireless it all up, and it werked!!!!!........until  i sorted out this passwerd problem for G jnr., which is one hell of a coincidence in'it?
Why did it suddenly stop receiving it's wireless signal because of this?
The two laptops are connecting ok,so it must be this port thing on the pc that IS in fact goosed.
So,what do i do now then? How do i determine who's best to fix it, as the yellow pages is bursting with bods who 'claim' to be experts. Is itactually worth the hassle or should i go and buy a new big box tower thing....and i'm now typing this blind cus i can't fathom out how to scroll this page down any lowe, so sorry if it doesn't quite read right s

Make sure the ethernet port is disabled

It was, and THAT was the problem? Banghead

No driver installed for it apparently, and all that nonsense yesterday installing a new network security key to enable the Growlers Jnr. to use their lapdogs was the reason for all me grief.

Very nice man picked randomly out of Yellow Pages....only cus his ad was great and eye catching...has just been, when he said he would too.  happy088
Ethernet driver downloaded direct from Del tool.
Sweet as a nut, and werkin' 100% again now too.

Think yer first man leaves something to be desired.

In fairness, he's NOT an I.T. man proffesionaly, and apart from the ethenet driver not being installed...as I seem to have mislaid the original Dell disc, it's been fine. A damned sight better than I could have done anyway.
I didn't even know it needed a driver tbqh.
I thought it was just some sort of random electrical socket thingy to plug yer bibs and bobs in. redface:

I hate it when they go Pete Tong and seem to conspire against you...

I was trying to compile some code (Java) today but one of the libraries is only available in a 32-bit version and won't run on my 64-bit PC.

Drag out spare PC with XP on it... doesn't work - no video... worked fine when I put it away three or four months ago...

Am now surrounded by piles of bits and PCs (see what I did there?) and am re-installing XP on another kludged together system...

One of the errors earlier on an old XP disc was 'you can't log-on to this PC until XP is registered' ... of course you can't register it until you can log-on and configure the Intermong... and so on ad infinitum.....  noooo:
