Cheap as ?
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:07:52 AM »
A few weeks I bought a USB hub and card reader for ?1 each in Poundland - they were for my dad's use, to go with PC I built for him.

Last Friday I tried to get some more but there were none left.

So I looked at Amazon -

I am tempted to buy a few

The old laptop I retrieved from my dad (one of my old work ones, sticker says Win98!) has 1 USB port and no ethernet port, so hub is useful.

Am waiting for cheapo USB to RJ45 connector and wireles PCMCIA card to be delivered.
Lapdog will become a diagnostic tool, maybe.

Little USB wireless adaptor arrived, 2 days early.

It's about the size of a postage stamp.
Works fine.

The wireless connector cost a tenner, free supersaver postage, ordered last Wednesday.

Not the same as the other bits I mentioned, but still cheap.

Lapdod is running Win2K, think I will change to Xp cos AV etc will not run on it.

Wonderful spec - 64Mb RAM, 3GB HD - not too many options for an upgrade but I can't justify buying an new lapdog.

Gave up on XP, too much for the lapdog. Reverting to Win2K

Stumbled across a network testing device amongst the stuff I was told I could keep from old company.
Looked it up - ?1500!
