Missed opportunities
« on: May 22, 2010, 03:13:53 PM »
When I was a teenager (60's) we went on a family holiday to France and browsing around a small southern town I noticed a shop selling ceramics - it happened to be where Picasso did some ceramics in the 1950's. There was a lovely "Owl Jug", limited edition of 500 decorated by PP himself. I think it was selling for around ?20 - ?30. I tried to persuade my Dad to buy it because i) it was my birthday coming up and ii) it would be a really good investment. He huffed and puffed and said it was a bloody silly idea and it wasn't any use as a jug.  sad32:

Moving on 40 years or so...

My sister has just sent me a text from Antibes where she's on holiday. There's a jug on sale from the same limited edition in a shop opposite the Picasso exhibition. The price tag reads 10,000 Euros!  eeek:

Actually I might well have sold it before now, if I'd had it, like  rubschin:

Think of it as a missed opportunity more like  cry:

Oh dear...  happy100

But you'd only have spent the ?10,000 on wine, women and song - how happy would that have made you?  noooo:

I sympathise with your frustration as I was the proud owner of a vintage perfume bottle and candle holder.  Chunky Art Deco it was and I inherited it from a favourite Aunt.  My obsession, compulsive, sanctimonious, arogant, contemptibly stupid, imbecilic, cretinous, absolutely, most definitely worse other half dropped it today. Explode:

My point being I too have ended up with nothing.

Well ~ at least you know now would be a good time to rid yourself of your "obsessive - compulsive, sanctimonious, arrogant, contemptibly stupid, imbecilic, cretinous, absolutely, most definitely worse other half"  whistle:

You could employ someone cheaper and sack them if they broke anything.

I am not normally prone to worrying about material possessions but did it have to be the most favorite thing I have, it was beautiful....  I responded by putting the candle holder in the bin too. Banghead

You could have shoved the candle holder up his arse.

You would have felt much better if you had  angel1
