Where else at that hour?
Nothing else to do when you have kids.

Today's plan was that SWMBO was going over to Lincs to visit her mother, taking children with her and leaving me in peace for the day.
SWMBO has gone, taking daughter but leaving two boys in my care, both have sore throats and "sniffles".

All I had planned to do is now gone by the board, SWMBO has taken nothing from the freezer for me to feed them on, I shall probably now catch their cold. My day is fvcked   Angry9:

I have asked the boys what their mother suggested about lunch ~ "She said you would probably take us out for lunch"   censored:

SWMBO has telephoned to say "We are not there yet but I thought I'd let you know we will be later than planned in getting there because there has been a pile-up near Nottingham and we are being diverted"

When I replied that I didn't actually give a stuff what time she got there and had she not telephoned I would have been none the wiser she seemed a little "put out".

"I thought you would be worried about us being caught up in the accident"

"But, my dear, there are fvcking accidents all over the country, I am in North Wales, how the hell would I know about an accident near Nottingham?"

"I thought you would have heard about it on the radio"

"What radio station are you listening to in your car my sweet?"

"Radio Trent of course ~ how else would I get the local traffic reports?"  Banghead Banghead Banghead

"Whilst you are there did you tell the boys I would be taking them out to lunch or are the cunning little sods trying it on?"

"Oh yes ~ I thought you would enjoy some quality time together"

I deemed it best to hang up at that point before the conversation turned toward divorce settlements, lawyers, custody of children etc.  angry041:

Quality time is not sitting in McDonalds with two snuffling, sneezing little boys.
Quality time is sitting in the pub with The Sunday Times, a pint of Best Bitter and a Sunday Roast in front of me as planned. evil:

Couldn't you take them down to pub with you? Our village pubs all welcome well behaved children and I have no doubt yours are.

TBH I could ~ but I hate kids in pubs, even my own because .............. well because:

A man should have somewhere to go to be on his own or with mates. He does not need nor want a lot of ankle biters around forcing him to moderate his language, not to drink to excess, not to flirt with the barmaid and, even when well behaved, wanting to play pool, fruit machines etc because frankly they are out of their depth and bored.

It's too cold for them to be sent into the pub garden to play.

Lastly ~ I await the first time in a real pub with my sons with some relish. "What are you having Dad?" Will be music to my ears ..... it'll mean that both they and I have made it. cloud9:

Well said again Snoops.

I have just "popped" into Sutton to go to Halfords to buy some Gunk and a stiff brush to clean the oil that leaked over the bottom of the bike.

When I say "popped", it took me the best part of an hour - Sutton is rammed and it's not even December yet  noooo:

I feel the pub is calling me.

I was in Sutton yesterday and it was practically empty. Mr Wench went today and has come back with a headache and an even greater hatred for the human race.

Oh dear ~ I 'spect the headache is a hangover from yesterday's Rugby results. Hating the human race is a Welsh thing ~ they even especially hate one another

Therein lies one of the only good points about redundancy -  I can go shopping when most people are working (at the moment at least.)
