Sanding man has been and has scratched his chin a lot.

Whole room sanded and cleared plus three coats of summat on the floorboards will be ?360. Mrs Nick then tried to interest him in the stairs and other stuff. He laughed and said to get a carpet (which is what I have been saying for years)!! Fab result  happy088

Wonderful news. Our stairs are carpeted but in the "old fashioned style" in that the carpets are not fitted wall to wall but run up the centre with stained boards either side. Much more in keeping with the age of the property (in both cases, although yours is at least two to three hundred years older than ours) but at least it stops the children from deafening everyone as they gallop up and down. It is also safer in terms of slip and trip hazards.

I recall my Grandparents had a carpet "runner" on the stairs long before they ever moved on from lino, floorboards and rugs elsewhere in the house (if indeed they ever did have any other floor coverings).
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

There is evidence here of precisely such a carpet as you describe. The neighbours have one too.

Will she listen?

I got a man in once and he did work his way out, but it took him a while. redface:

Have you ever considered giving her a sound spanking? Not the "For Fun and Mutual Pleasure" sort but a good, old fashioned, "I am the man in this house and if you don't like it you can lump it" sort

I take you have thought of it but rejected the idea then.  lol:

My ex was very similar to Mrs Nick (discussed passim) in many respects but after the divorce she did actually say she would have probably responded positively and not been such a bully had I tanned her arse a couple of times. This information was vouchsafed voluntarily and quite out of the blue as we were having a civilised drink after the divorce proceedings and reminiscing about the good times.

I offer the thought for what it is worth.

Would you prefer burial or cremation Nick ?
