Oh you doubters. Honest it is working well (So far!!!)
Bugger to install the printer and getting the email up and runnng took time but, touch wood, all is working. I have sent and received emails, found my way here several times and swtched off and on again .... all without any major problems. No smoke coming out of it either.
The only worry is that it is so quiet that I can hear the wall clock ticking ..... and that is a very new experience.
Even with a Disk in I can't hear it running and have to keep checking that installation disks are in and going round.

Don't worry, uncle Bill Gates is watching every letter you type and will send through updates - whether you like it or not - and it will eventually run like a crippled snail and adding any non-Microsoft approved software will fail haplesessly.

If you choose Google at any stage, you are a dead Beagle.

happ096

To be honest I quite liked it at first… cloud9:

It found all my peripherals including old printers and scanners and loaded appropriate drivers for them – finding them on the Interweb where necessary.  8)

The thing is though is it very security conscious and it annoyingly asks you ‘if you are sure?’ when you want to make simple changes to the system setup that it has chosen for you.  Also, being an administrator is not enough for some tasks – you have to switch off ‘file protection’ or whatever and then it continually warns you that ‘file protection’ is switched off…  cussing:

But the thing that finished it for me was the networking – I could connect my PC to a shared drive that we backup and keep all our data on but when I restarted the PC the next morning it decided that it wasn’t safe to share the drive with somebody else and so disconnected it… every day.  Banghead

Then the updates started…  noooo:

As I was reading your deathless prose the screen went black and a message said xxxxxx has stopped and restarted and then the screen came back on  eeek:
I have to put xxxxxx because the message was not up long enough for me to read and make sense of what ever had stopped and restarted.

It also got very grumpy when I uninstalled the "Free 60 day trial" of Norton anti virus and installed AVG instead.
