She has returned from a bad week via at least two visits to A&E caused by an over active and accident prone Boy, much put out because Nick has given her, foolishly in my humble opinion, regular and accurate updates on the building work progress and she is ready to find fault with everything and anything. Armed with Nick's regular updates she knows what to look for and has spotted these flaws in the workmanship, smelt the stench of liberal overuse of white spirit, the mess that he thought he has cleaned up is still evident to her womanly eye and she has moved on from this to looking, I would suggest actively searching, for those things that she just KNOWS he has failed to tell her. Meanwhile Nick, in a foolish attempt to demonstrate his angst, his anguish, his contrition and deflect her anger into something approaching sympathy has stupidly thought that if he shows her his damaged member she will forgive all and feel sorry for him and has whipped out his scarred willy and flashed it at her. At this point she has killed him.

Anyway that is my theory to explain his now elongated absence.  whistle:

She wants to hire a sanding machine. OK, but this will mean emptying the room entirely, sanding it, replacing all the stuff and then emptying it all out again (for the third time) when the painter comes. I have suggested we leave the sanding until the day before the painter comes, so we only have to empty the room out once, not twice. Banghead

I await her decision.

She has already rearranged the room once (by herself) in the small hours of this morning. I may have to go on strike  cussing:

We sanded the floor in one of our front rooms ~ very hard work. One sander is not enough as you also have to hire the edge sander or you won't be able to match the .... errrrr..... edges. The hire shop charges for both and also sells you the sander belts and discs. The mess is incredible and at the end of the day I was pushed to finish the job before the hire shop shut so had to pay for a second half day's hire.

A "professional" (See yellow pages) would have cost £300 and that was to strip the floor, clean up and then stain and polish the floor.

By the time we had finished "saving money" we had spent two days doing the job, both had aching backs and Mrs S#2's asthma was bad for a week because of the dust from the sanding. And I saved? £50 which was then spent on buying stain, varnish etc to achieve the colour Mrs S#2 wanted.

Honestly Nick it is not worth the candle. Get a man in. You will get a professional job done, all mess cleared and Mrs Nick will be happier in the end.

Mrs S#2 is still not happy (two years on) with the finish we managed doing it ourselves and we are still finding sawdust!!

Her (Mrs S#2's) major complaint to this day is that she can see the marks left by the sander. A professional will not leave marks. The suggestion of trying your hand with the machine on some boards that will not notice until you have mastered the art, made by the hire shop, was a lot of bollox as she can see the marks everywhere and it is even worse when she moves something and sees my trial patch.
