Tricky things, they can get through the holes in the drum and make a nasty mess of the works.

Try the filter first. Usually little circular stylee screw off cap at the bottom of the machine at front  whistle:

You take the filter out. See instructions for cleaning the filter ..... that'll be in the booklet that came with the machine .... if you can remember where you put that........ on second thoughts just go to John Lewis in the morning and buy a new one.
