The old skills are all getting lost.

A young couple in their late 30's rent a nearby farm and naturally I was talking to him in the week about how hard things are and how expensive everything is.

He told me the gearbox had gone on his paddock topper (giant tractor-mounted Flymo) and a new one was nearly ?300.

I asked why he didn't just replace the bearings and he looked at me as if I was bonkers.

Yesterday he brought it round and an hour or so of cursing and my 1950's bearing puller plus ?16 of ball-race and it was fixed.

Why does nobody mend anything any more?

He brought round a bottle of Glenmorangie this morning as well.  cloud9:

Now I was always told a ball-race was a farmer chasing a bull calf around the field.  whistle:

Do you have all the necessary know how, tools, and skills to do this renovation BM, or someone that actually wants to help you that knows all about Minis? rubschin:

One of the more tricky cars to work on I'm sure you know.

Many skinned knuckles and cursing is forecast.

Growler ~ the reason he has picked a mini is that it is less of a fall from the roof to the ground.

Why would he be on the roof of it.
He needs to be UNDER it, not over it.
