I have a vivid memory of aquaplaning in a Renault 5 up the Autoroute 1 from Paris to Calais to catch a ferry  scared2: scared2:

Doing about 80mph and then suddenly there was an almighty whizzzz as we hit the water!  Keep calm! Hands lightly on the steering wheel ... keep it straight... pheeeew!
