Vinyl I suspect, but I could be very wrong, in fact 
no, I think they were cloth, as the standard Clubman me mum had in '78 had cloth iirc.

Had a bugger of a job trying to remove the drive shafts today so the engine is still in at the moment... 
If one of those is the original, my dosh is on the cloth.
Full leather conversion is the way forward, unless you can get the original material that is?
Don't just throw any old random crappy material in there though.
Need to do some research here you know.
