. . even Nick can manage to get from an airport to his hotel.

Be fair though, it would be the wrong hotel, or have burned down if it was the right one.

Good point ~ well made.

Back to the otiginal topic and gripe.  ::)

Comparison:

Growler Towers to Manchester airport, £60/70 return. Total mileage 90 miles.
Not actually going from Manchester this time but that's the going rate apparently.

Venice airport to holiday site. £456 is the cheapest return. Total mileage 70 miles.  eeek:

THAT is what I'm griping about, and most normal people would probably think the same.
A great big rip off.

We're not camping in a tent btw

Not willy waving, but I've had plenty of driving experience abroad in more than 8 different countries iirc already thanks, including in and around Paris, once in a 52 seater. That was actually quite scary tbh. scared2:

I believe only Rome is as bad by comparison, but I won't be going near the place. noooo:

Drove a Mini up to the Troodos, and a scooter around Aya Napa in Cyprus back in '84 too. cloud9:

I've had a rummage around the web looking at taxi prices in the Venice area. Seems the going rate!

Definitely a rip off but what can you do?

Not trying to be funny, but if you Google "Venice Taxi" you get this:

Which I expect is rather dear.

According to a nice young lady Key Camp who I spoke to a couple of hours ago he should contact www.car-transfer.it

Their site is in English and Italian so he can choose the language.

They quoted me between €108 and €123 depending on the size of the party

It seems that they (the girls at key Camp) always recommend www.car-transfer.it. Chap by the name of Aldo Dinoble (sp?) runs it, so they tell me, and he does most of their work. The price the young lady quoted me was from Treviso Airport to the furthest of the three sites that they have in the area. That was done deliberately as it would be a longer journey and thus the price from Venice airport should be a little less. The young lady suggested going to the site and asking for a quote giving the accurate dates/times and numbers which I did not have. She assures me that the people at the Italian web site speak excellent English.

The young lady at Key Camp also told me that she and many of her colleagues catch the airport bus into Venice and then get a water taxi across Venice. Once off the water taxi she assures me it is a short bus or taxi cab ride to the site. This she says is the cheapest and pleasantest route.

I post this in a spirit of friendship not ridicule.
