I've had a rummage around the web looking at taxi prices in the Venice area. Seems the going rate!

Definitely a rip off but what can you do?

Quite. Staggeringly eye watering in'it?  eeek:

I believe the Gondalas around the watery streets of Venice are incredibly expensive too.
Someone has suggested about £70 per person! eeek:

As previously stated, I'll be hiring a car now anyway, which was always going to be plan B right from when it was all booked 3 months ago.
Plan C, public transport, is really going to be too much mither and dabbling into the unknown until you actually get there.
That's possibly horrendously expensive too anyway? Shrugs:

Anyways, I'm considering sneeking out to drive up to the Alps one day to get some use out of the car while they're all splashing around in the pool. Only about 70 miles away...i think.  rubschin:

Better take out some extra insurance to cover tyre wear. lol:

Seriously, I'd quite like to find some of the route they took during the filuming of my all time favourite filum, The Italian job! cloud9:

According to a nice young lady Key Camp who I spoke to a couple of hours ago he should contact www.car-transfer.it

Their site is in English and Italian so he can choose the language.

They quoted me between €108 and €123 depending on the size of the party

It seems that they (the girls at key Camp) always recommend www.car-transfer.it. Chap by the name of Aldo Dinoble (sp?) runs it, so they tell me, and he does most of their work. The price the young lady quoted me was from Treviso Airport to the furthest of the three sites that they have in the area. That was done deliberately as it would be a longer journey and thus the price from Venice airport should be a little less. The young lady suggested going to the site and asking for a quote giving the accurate dates/times and numbers which I did not have. She assures me that the people at the Italian web site speak excellent English.

The young lady at Key Camp also told me that she and many of her colleagues catch the airport bus into Venice and then get a water taxi across Venice. Once off the water taxi she assures me it is a short bus or taxi cab ride to the site. This she says is the cheapest and pleasantest route.

I post this in a spirit of friendship not ridicule.

From a window in the Grand Canal Hotel  rather than at water level in said canal I assume.

Meanwhile, Snoopy.

2 pages ago you were sort of ripping into me like a semi savage Rotweiller, then you turn everything around in the space of 1 page and pull out all the stops and go way beyond the 'call of duty' in terms of helpfulnes....for which I thank you very much. happy088
You didn't need to do that, really.

You amaze and confuslicate me sometimes. confused:

I only did a quick guesstimate on the disrance looking at a rather large scale map, so they could be nearer than i originally thought.
Might be a bit cooler up there for me like too. cloud9:

Yes Mr G, the Grand Canal is smack dab in the middle of Venice and those 'ills with the snow on in the background ... yes!  The pic was taken in May a couple of years ago IIRC  ;D
