Yes Mr G, the Grand Canal is smack dab in the middle of Venice and those 'ills with the snow on in the background ... yes!  The pic was taken in May a couple of years ago IIRC

Wasn't my choice...I prefer 'ills and foresty type cooler climates like, no, it was Growler Jnrs believe it or not.
It's a pressy for his 18th burfday, and finishing of his full time education. It's also a treat for MM to celebrate the end of the GCSE's too.

I've got this picture in me mind that it's a dirty smelly place, but i could be wrong I suppose?

We'll have to have a day trip there no doubt.

I love its uniqueness, its buildings, its hidden treasures. It is a romantic place.  Yes it is full of tourists but you don't have to be ripped off.

It's an extraordinary and enchanting place to which a day trip will not do justice but don't let that put you off. The tourists will be unavoidable but it's rich history is worth savouring if only for a short while.

We camped about 20 miles away on a German run site. It was during the '66 world cup & the camp guard authorities arranged for the final to be shown in a local cinema, my dad & uncle Frank were the only 2 non-Germans there.
