I currently use Quicken for Windows version 3. It dates from 1995 and has worked fine until recently. I now getting data corruptions so I need to change.


Any suggestions?

What are the advantages of Home Accounts Software over preparing what you need in Excel? (Or Mac's Numbers in my case  )

I seem to be able do Bank rec.s, VAT calculations, Sales, Purchases etc, Invoicing etc without even dipping into the templates ...

Pastis, it's a database thing rather than spreadsheet. From the bank account transactions items are posted to various expense/income accounts and are held as separate records. They can then be searched/compared/reported on in various ways.

I've used Excel from the year dot, a bit later started using Access (database program) and I realised that many spreadsheets I had created would have been far better in Access.

Gotcha. Well I think I understood that 

My IFA uses some kind of accounts software, he said, and he recommends I do so, perhaps I'll look into some Mac based stuff.

I am still using double entry books and a biro to keep records and type individual invoices by hand.

Accounts for the Magazine and the Village Hall ~ have to be kept separately for obvious reasons ~ would love to find freeware that I could use for both. Needs to keep records, issue invoices, log in payments and show balances.

Ideas welcome.

So was I until I realised I was paying too much for the accountants to trawl through analogue records.

Feel free to ignore this potentially inflammatory idea but, the THW probably has iWorks on her MacBook ... it might be worth taking a look at the templates
