I've just done a quickie search and it appears that some of you, you know who you are  spider:, have got these devices  whistle:

With the prospect of hoooge increases in prices for a loaf of bread I've been thinking about getting one, that and obviously the delicious smell and taste of me own fresh bread in the morning  razz:

So, where are we at with these marvels of modern technology?  Are they gathering dust?  In use every day?  Stashed in the cupboard waiting for the boot sale?  ...

Which model and make?  Years ago I was quite a dab hand at making bread by hand but I don't think I want to go back that far; looking for a piece of kit that'll do the job nicely.

Well, a good housewarming pressie when you get installed in the new place with a bit of luck. I foresee a host of new bread related stories ...  razz:

BM uses his all the time. Must admit the bread was lovely and it didn't seem too much hassle. Bung it all in and leave it to do it's thing. the smell was yumster  cloud9:

Actually a friend has a Panasonic with an automated seed infill for wholegrain or summat ... hasn't bought an ordinary loaf for years, apart from the special stuff from the Greek bakers down the road  rubschin:

The Kenwood BM250 eh. Did they name it after Ken Wood or you

Without rummaging to the back of the cupboard, I think mine's this one , I've hardly ever used it, but when I have, the results have been very good.

Read the reviews on Amazon like...

I reckon the nut dispensers are just summat more to go wrong... I bung my seed in right at the start and the taste (as Miss D testifies) is delicious. If you want to add something else later the machine beeps at the appropriate time...

Ours came from Lidl ~ cheap as chips and still going despite almost daily use for two years.

Problem with your theory though Pastis ~ it ain't the bread that is rising (see what I did there!) it is the price of the flour. No breadmaker in the world will compensate for that.

TOP TIPS:
1) We find that unless eaten within max 48 hours home made bread is fit only to feed to the ducks.
2) As a singleton you would be advised to get a breadmaker that is able to make small loaves as well as "normal" sized ones. Not all do.
3) Lidl bread flour is the best around both on price and flavour. Avoid the "name" brands as they are expensive and taste no better.

Go for it IMHO I have one of these Panasonic SD-254WXC but have had various ones since about 1990.  Great fun to use the smell is fantastic as Snoops says you have to eat it fresh but you could freeze it.  I have even made jam in mine.  There are loads of easy flours around, wholemeal, sunflower sun-dried tomato.

I use to visit that bakery whenever I was at Lyme Regis, fantastic bread, and you could watch them make it.

Excellent info ladies and gents and thank you. The groundwork will continue. You're right Snoops; I want something that'll do a modest size, not hoooge, but also has the versatility to do different types. Lidl prices were suggested by someone not on here and there's one locally so that's good. Was discussing wheat prices with the B-in-law this weekend  eeek: eeek:
