I bought Office 2007 a year or so ago as people send me stuff for the magazine via email and when I was using Office 2003 I couldn't open half of what was coming in because they were using Office 2007. On that basis I shall have to upgrade to 2010 soon I guess.
Microsoft have a free converter that reads Office 2007 files in Office 2003...
I could not open
(i) Files sent to me that had used Excel 2007 (Accounts from Treasurer)
(ii) Powerpoint stuff that had been created on 2007 (Adverts etc)
(iii) Any documents sent by the County Council
And then there are those arses that insist on using Publisher which cannot be opened at all because everyone seems to have a different version.
I don't pretend to be technically gifted or trained ~ I simply want an easy solution to my many problems ~ mostly caused by the lack of consistancy in what others use.
One person wants to stick with XP ~ fine but another wants to buy the very latest gizmo the minute it is released. The answer is therefore to ensure that my software is the latest available.
If, like me, you are trying to keep up just enough to be able to have an easy life it gets very annoying when smug b@st@rds, who I have to ring to say "My PC is refusing to open your document, can you convert it to XY or Z and resend it?" sneeringly come out with "Oh don't you have the latest xxxxxxxxx then? Har Har Har."
I get sort of pissed off and tell them to fvck off which is not good for business so now that the opportunity has arisen to obtain a grant (Community Service etc) to completely upgrade then I want to know what I should put on the application form to get the cash. I need to evaluate what is available within budget and put forward the case to support the application.
What I cannot put and thus do not need is a fecking history lesson!
But thanks for the tip anyway.
