What actually happens when the opposition party goes bankrupt?

Quote
THE Labour Party is on the verge of bankruptcy and will go bust unless it tackles its £20million debt, Lord Prescott warned yesterday.

The former deputy prime minister, who wants to be party treasurer, blamed Labour’s plight on poor organisation, plummeting membership and bad accounting.

He also called for limits on party political spending.

Concerns about Labour finances first emerged after the cash-for-peerages scandal, when private donations dried up. During the election the Conservatives, partly funded by billionaire Lord Ashcroft, outspent Labour.

At the Festival of Politics in Edinburgh, Mr Prescott called for “a strong treasurer who’s involved in the membership drive” and added: “The politics of organisation are equally as important as the politics of ideas. We forgot about the organisation bit.”

His remarks came as the Financial Services Authority registered Tony Blair’s new investment bank, Firerush, which could act for the super-rich. The Labour Party yesterday declined to comment on its finances.

My only argument would be that Tony Blair never claimed to be a socialist.
