Humanist Funerals/Cremation I 'spect.

It can be done using an undertaker or there is a DIY type of method. Google has details of what the law allows and what it does not.

By no funeral I assume your late friend/colleague meant no religion.

Write an obit and give him a big funeral ~ how's he going to know?

No. It was no funeral!

There has to be a disposal of the body. Either by burial or cremation that is the law.

To get round this the body can be donated to "Medical Science" but this requires a signed statement of the wishes of the deceased properly witnessed by two other people, just like a will.

You can exclaim all you like
Quote
No. It was no funeral!
but that is the law. End of story.

How do I know? To satisfy Growler who will, no doubt wish to comment upon my "Knowing all" I know because I have just arranged this for my Brother (in readiness) and for myself (also in readiness) as neither of us wanted a funeral. Our wills have been written, witnessed and lodged with copies given to the medical school and to our executors.

If a body is left to science then the medical school that uses it will arrange for the remains to be cremated after three years and the ashes disposed of in accordance with both the law and the wishes expressed by the deceased. The med school can only keep some organs beyond that period IF the deceased has expressed their permission for this in the will/statement of intent.

So not "Knowing it all" Growler ~ just recently obtained facts.

Green burial.

My father wanted one.  My mother wouldn't hear of it despite the fact that they had been separated for three years and they were getting a divorce. Banghead

I have always thought that the worst thing about drowning was having to call 'help!' You must look such a fool. It's put me against drowning.
