£800  - £1000 a year  eeek:

Mine costs £39 a month ( Fitness First)  - this includes full use of the gym  ( any of their gyms regardless of location) at any time, any or all classes you may or may not wish to attend, swimming pool , sauna, steam room etc  . I think the membership has gone up slightly now since I joined but shouldn't be by much.  You can  provisionally sign up for 3 months initially to see how you get on so you won't having to be signing your life away if you don't want to .

Some will also offer you a few free sessions with a personal trainer who can help devise a bit of a package for you tailored for your needs and what you want your outcome to be.

I guess there are the main chains ( Fitness First / Virgin Active / LA Fitness etc)  and then those specific to your area.

There may be special rates if you can use the gym on 'off - peak ' times which would make it a lot cheaper .

I remember saying I joined at the beginning of the year and you lot scoffing at me saying was a waste of time and money - but I love proving you wrong  whistle:

It will depend on your own motivation but once you start feeling your fitness levels improve that was motivation enough for me.

Try your local leisure centres rather than private health clubs. The one down here costs £301.50 p.a including pool, See here

Bit of a journey for a workout tho'. ;)

Good point about local leisure centres but depends on the qualifications ad numbers of staff.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Would suggest that if you are to join one it is not out of your way too much. If you have to make too much of an effort to get there then it ain't gonna happen  noooo:

As long as it's not out of your way too much....would you consider it to be ?

Personally it would be for me but we live in very different areas

I am with Fitness First and it only costs £22 per month, I joined as a student about 3 years ago.

I am usually enrolled on a course which is usually Level 3 or above, purely because working part time while my kids were young I needed free entertainment.  I took a year off last year and also have no plans to enrole on anything this year.  Protean definitely applies to my career.

Await the return of Mr Grumblepants  noooo:

Went to 'The Mollington' first.

Miserable unhelpful sour faced munter behind reception just grunted a obviously bored few words and said £50 pm, no contract, or £35 pm off peak.
Not impressed.

Craxton was much better. 2 extremely helpful and keen lads showed me around and discussed everything without hesitation.
£54 pm + £25 joining fee, 12 month contract, but you can freeze the contract and restart it whenever you like apparently.
Nice facilities, and full use of them all including special classes. Shrugs:

Got to get a quackters note of approval apparently, £££kaching£££. ::)

I need to check out a few more first i think.  rubschin:
