Dropping my sprogs off at school this morning we saw my daughter's new science teacher pulling up in her gleaming Porsche 911 with personalised number plates.  rubschin:

She's a bit of a TILF BTW  eyes:

How much they get paid is a moot point.  What is tragic is the lack of a sufficient amount of male teachers - At my (albeit Grammar)  school, all but 4 of them were males. And most had come from the Army/RAF/Navy. All were extremely hard but fair. And most of us came out of that school far, far better than is the case today.

I know the newer regime of yoghurt knitting socialist "the child is all-important" mentality fuckwits have dragged their claws far too deeply into the system, but the simple fact is over-bearing political correctness in the form of a massive influx of weak and misguided female teachers has ruined the last generation and probably the next.

Get our boys back from Afghanistan and those that can teach should be welcomed with open arms. ALL our children would better off for it.

A good teacher is priceless.  The ones we have are generally bronze medal at best.

I broadly agree. Most of my primary school teachers, and many at my secondary school, were ex-force (WW2) and they were indeed firm but fair. My history teacher was an ex=RSM. He scare the shit out of the whole school!  scared2:

Whilst government stats do demonstrate that teacher ratios are 74.9% female and 24.1% male I think one has to look further than that to find the answers.
Firstly the reason why there are now so many more female than male teachers is simple enough to work out and it isn't pay. Coeducation is the main reason why men no longer see teaching as a good profession. Back "in the day" when TMR, Nick and even earlier when I was at school most schools were single sex. A male teacher could deal with a class full of boys. BUT come co-education and instantly all male teachers were on a loser. Constant requests to "Go to the toilet" which used to be met with "NO! You should have gone in the break time" became a minefield as one little Jenny and Mary insisted that it was "That time" and they had to go together. Just one example but a relevant one as it demonstrates how hard it is to keep order in a co-ed class of teenagers. Another point is that whereas boys made it a point of honour to accept any punishment with a degree of manliness "Boys don't cry" girls could and would burst into tears at the drop of a hat leaving "Sir" isolated and open to all sorts of allegations. So as ever we males simply packed it in. We know when we are not going to win.
As for the idea that all our teachers had been in the army that is largely true (some of mine in the bloody SS I felt) but then they HAD TO because of National Service. Even students at university could only defer the call-up until they had graduated. That gave the services a mix of all abilities and types and of course all National Servicemen were that .... MEN not WIMMIN. You could not take your average squaddie of today and expect him to become a teacher .... most are in the army because they are barely literate and cannot gain employment elsewhere.
No ~ we need root and branch change in education if we are to get men back into teaching and that has to start with returning to single sex schools. In the 50s when I was at school even the primary schools were single sex. Only infants were mixed and the preserve of female teachers. Then we need to reintroduce Grammar Schools in every area .... not just a few. Southampton boasted as many Grammar as Sec Modern schools when I was in education....... All single sex.
Then start thinking about National Service. It works for other countries why not the UK?

Unfortunately any attempt to bring back national service will be scuppered by the solicitor's best friend, the HRA  Banghead

The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

Mr Wench's school is unusual in that they have, from September, a 50 50 split between male and female staff.

Part of the reason a lot of men don't want to teach is of course money, most of our friends his age are earning a good 25% more than he is. Not that the money is bad, just not as good as some other professions.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that it is now a female dominated profession. The looks that Mr Wench got from a lot of acquaintances when he announced he was going to be a primary school teacher were ridiculous. Including one "mate" who asked whether he liked them young.  ::)
