Council Tax online
« on: September 26, 2010, 06:40:32 PM »
I noticed yesterday tha t some of my new neighbours had had a notice from the bailiffs for non payment of council tax. I have as yet had no bill, so tonight, being a good citizen  angel1, I went to the appropriate website to notify my new council of my arrival.

I can deal with name and address, but then they wanted: previous address (fook off, why: NOthing to do with them), solicitors who handled transactoin (fook off, why? Nothing to do with them) and other personal stuff of no relevance to my bill. I now await a call from some SHaron or Tracey  evil: evil: evil:

I did, however, avail myself of their offer of titles. I am now Professor Nick  eveilgrin:

I'm surprised they hadn't marked those as mandatory completion fields ....did you receive confirmation that the information was accepted ?

I think you will find that "they" are entitled to seek proof of the date on which you became liable for council tax at your new residence and that is usually provided by your solicitor. Either by a direct approach from the council to the lawyer or by you providing a letter from the solicitor confirming the completion date of the purchase which is, effectively, when you became liable. Often this can take the form of the invoice for final fees from your solicitor but they will want to see something as evidence.

The reason for wanting your old address is that you may be entitled to a period of grace if you are, for whatever reason, paying council tax there as well.

Not snooping ~ just doing their job according to the law.

All in all your unhelpful attitude could be costing you money. whistle:

I am not entitled to a period of grace and I refuse to give a local council details of my solicitors. OK  evil:

Oh you will in the end or they may exercise their right to bang you for non-payment back to April 6th 2010. Face it you can't win as they have the law on their side should they choose to wield it ::)

Just called Severn-Trent Water with my meter reading (seems all new properties get metered).

"There is no meter at that property."

Me: The reading is 0132.73972

"There is no meter at that property."

This will continue, I'm sure  happy100

Before working from home became really viable I rented space (two rooms) in a property in Southwark. I shared facilities with my co-renters in whose space were the toilets etc. and this was reflected in the rent.
Thames Water decided they would bill me for supplying water ...  Sinister:
"Show me the water and I'll pay the bill" says I over the phone. They actually sent 2 people round to look for it  happy001
