Utter utter bastards
« on: September 28, 2010, 09:54:41 AM »
I have done a lot of work over a long period for an outfit in London on a sub contract basis. My Scottish contract is partof my current work for them.

I have just had a call from them to say that with immediate effect they are reducing their Associates day rate from the current £550 A DAY TO £200  cussing: cussing:

The attitude was pretty much take it or leave it.

And this for a contract which was signed 2 years ago with the Scottish Government and which has not been reduced in value. The person who called me is a stalwart of the fooking union  Banghead

That's a bummer!

Form a new company and submit a quote for the work. I got away with that once. Cutting out the others in the loop I underbid the original but ended up with more for me.

Contract was to provide security patrols at a certain town centre. Mind I wound up working fooking long hours but I did make £5k in the two months leading up to and immediately after Christmas. I also persuaded the employers that they should provide a vehicle as a cheaper option than my providing it.

They already have a four year contract with the Scottish Gvt. They are capping rates to avoid their own redundancy  cussing:

Sorry ~ It was just an idea. Perhaps when the contract comes up for renewal you should submit your own bid? You do have the inside track so to speak and can use the intervening time to improve personal relations with the decision makers. These things usually go with a wink and a nod in the right direction.

Anywhooo ~ I'll pay for lunch.  happy100

It's fairly systematic across the board.

We have chopped the rates of our temporary contractors and agency staff , increased fees for just about every service we provide, lost some salary and benefits from permanent staff etc.
