MAC code
« on: October 04, 2010, 03:38:07 PM »
So then, my main e mail address is with BT Broadband and for this I pay line rental and stuff at Nick Towers #1. If i cancel the line I lose the e mail addy. But today I get an e mail from BT about MAC, which suggests I can migrate my service to another provider (for a fee). DOes this shite actually work??

But surely Mrs Nick is using the same BT broadband line at Nick Towers#1, albeit with a different email addy so do you need to cancel?

If you have a BT line with Broadband installed at your new place then you can keep the same email addy. It is a transfer not a cancellation you need. Obviously you will end up with a new phone number at the new flat......  Simply have a new broadband line put in to your new flat, you keep the same email addy which saves confusion with clients, cos no matter how you tell them some will not change their address books and once that is done remove your name from the account at Nick Towers #1 leaving Mrs Nick to sort her own bills etc.

The only reason to need a new email addy is if you change ISPs.

Seemples!  ;)

Fair 'nuff mate but I doubt that getting a Migration Authorisation Code from BT, which enables you to switch line providers, will enable you to keep your BT email address.

If you have an email account with somebody you cannot transfer it.

The only way to avoid this is to have your own domain/website (like wot I did) which will enable you to have loadsa email addresses (can't remember if my limit is 50 or 100).
Doesn't cost much per year and you don't actually have to have a website.
