What is it recently with the trend to include about a squillion posts with the quoting function 

Are we getting lazier, less selective or just trying to annoy 

Is it perhaps the latest forum fashion we are trying to follow ?

Is it a security measure to ensure you have captured every comment leading up to the one you are just about to make?

Is it a desire to fill the server space as quickly as possible so that we can crash the system and call it a gubtastrophe ?

None of the above. It is just pointless silliness 

I use it to show which post I am responding to but only if there are posts in between and I am wary that somebody may think I am taking issue with them when I am not. There are some out there in cyberland who always assume a post that follows theirs HAS to be directed at them when this is often not the case. I also use it when my response goes over the page and loses context. I hope that this will meet with your approval.

If there is a tendency to use the quote tool more then it may be that our posters are becoming more adept at using the facilities provided.

Of course some will always use quotes from other sources to support their own comments and opinions. This is useful as it does put the rant in context for the rest of us but I do agree that simply posting a quote from another source and making no comment yourself can be annoying to others.

PS Another reason for quoting is to highlight an error and make mock!
