A curiosity of gender?
« on: January 10, 2011, 10:23:08 AM »
Have you ever noticed that if you throw something to a seated man and he fumbles the catch he will automatically close his legs to catch the item on his lap whereas a woman will always open her legs in the same circumstances?
I used to think this was because women wore skirts or aprons and therefore stood a better catch of catching the dropped item but it applies even when they are wearing trousers or shorts.

This came to mind this morning when I was taking my daily meds and dropped a pill. I caught the pill in my lap .... wife was sitting opposite me wearing trousers (She so seldom wears a skirt I cannot remember the last time I saw her in one). Recalling earlier observations of the fair sex and knowing her to be a "Girly" catcher (worse than an Australian Cricketer) I tossed a pack of the pills in her direction. Her legs opened as she fumbled for it.

Dunno what you blokes make of it but I may have stumbled across something quicker than sweet talk and voddy here!  eyes:

I have indeed observed this trait over the years, but had never thought it worth a mention on a forum.

As I once caught the contents of a little box of drawing pins in this way, I feel that wimmin may well be right in this instance.  noooo:

As I once caught the contents of a little box of drawing pins in this way, I feel that wimmin may well be right in this instance.  noooo:

Glad to have my "research" confirmed .... I too have regretted the natural impulse to close my legs when dropping something .... in my case a lit cigarette .... which is why I made no jokes like "surely you are used to a little prick between your legs".

However to get serious again... Gerlies are trained from an early age by their mothers to "sit properly, knees together, never cross your legs, only your ankles .... 'in case you show your knickers'" whereas boys and men sprawl, legs akimbo without a care in the world. So why the change when they drop something?

These same little gerls will happily do handstands against the school wall, perform cartwheels etc without a care in the world who sees their knickers but heaven help any boy who tries to "cop a peek" under the desk. My two were terrified of picking up a dropped pencil for fear of being accused of "inappropriate behaviour".

In my younger days we always threw a ciggy to a girl in the sure and certain knowledge that we would be granted a brief glimpse of stocking top at the very least.
I tried this out on my ex, many times, when she was sitting at her dressing table, nakkid and she still reacted the same way, by opening her legs but if she walked up stairs in front of me I was accused of lechery.  confused:

Conclusion .... Wimmin are weird.

Wimmin are weird eh  noooo: noooo: noooo:

We have a bloke in the office who sits 'legs akimbo' and whenever you talk to him his hands clasp behind the back of his neck and so the 'thrust ' position becomes much more apparent. This is with everyone.

The ' angle of dangle' is so feckin huge if you sit next to him you have to push your own knees together and lean to the side just so that you are not touching.

If wimmin are weird then men are selfish  evil:

He is compensating and giving you the chance to admire the rolled up sock in his underpants. The man is clearly inadequate.
