Tho' I confess I personally would not attempt the M3, M25 and M1 with an iffy motor on a Friday afternoon/evening.

Just to recap...

You smelt burning and pulled over
You called the AA and they said take it to the main dealer
You drove it to the main dealer??????
They've found bugger all wrong with it
You've driven it all the way back to Nottingham with no problem????

Did you pass any gyppo site where they may have been burning sheathing off copper wire  rubschin:

No, they knew it was not werking, but couldn't find the source of the prob. Hence no charge  cloud9:

Dashboard fooked. No speedo, no rev counter, no temp gauge, all warning lights flashing like Christmas tree. Later, no heater fan  evil: Oh, and no odometer  eveilgrin:
