I am told it is a well known design fault with this model that eventually causes it to catch fire  scared2:

Will cost more to repair than it cost me and may go wrong again.

I can return it to HP for repair under the guarantee and that will take 4 weeks  ::)

Most of the problems with hp laptops catching fire in the past was down to battery issues so you could have simply replaced that and probably been ok.  rubschin:

No, one of the hinges that attach the screen to the base comes adrift and jams the cooling fan. The chap I went to for a repair had NINE in his workshop. Some had partially melted  eeek:

HP was once a good name in laptops.  I've had to change the fan twice in the last one I bought and won't be buying HP again
