I'd heard that when Nick checked in he was pulled up for being overweight; which was unfortunate as he didn't have any luggage.  confused:

Another thunk

IIRC the 32kg limit is a health and safety measure.  So if some fool at check in checks a 40+kg bag as 32kg then wouldn't blame=claim compo be involved if the bag lugger happened to then show signs of back strain.  Necessitating a period of time resting in the sun on some mediterranean island?

MedView supply their own check-in staff - they're not ours. I believe they have a "relaxed" attitude towards weight limits.

even better, they can be sued for deliberate negligence thereby paying for your medical holiday in Cyprus and your employer won't resent it
Well, whatever, nevermind

I see it was 2 hours 40 minutes late departing last night. The residents of Charlwood must have loved to hear a Boeing 747-400 thundering overhead at 00.49 this morning  ;D

MedView Friday night 1,162 bags. 117 missed as the plane was full.
Last night 941 bags, 89 missed, plane full.

Bearing in mind the fish in the bags, can you imagine the smell of the ones that missed

VL210 finally left Gatwick at 1030 this morning - about 12 hours late. Most of Sussex Police were in attendance for the last 6 hours. But that was not my concern.

The 12 hours where I was looking after all our other flights today was without doubt the 12 shittiest hours I have ever done. And my next shift will be worserer.  It's beyond a joke now, 10 extra airlines and only 5 extra staff.

And one of my colleagues forgot to send a firearm out to a flight this morning, which is about the worst thing you can do. He'll be strung up for this, despite the fact that he was trying to look after about 20 other flights at the same time.

What happens to firearms that don't get sent out?  Surely that's not as bad as sending one that shouldn't

The firearm will be held by Customs until the passenger returns to pick it up. The whole process went wrong yesterday - we collect the firearm from the passenger and then take it through security with the requisite paperwork. We then retain it and take it to the aircraft where the flight dispatcher signs for it and advises the Captain of its presence. It is put in a separate hold on the aircraft. The flight dispatcher SHOULD have been advised that a firearm was expected and SHOULD have rung us to ask where it was. He/she didn't.

The bloke who collected the fireram SHOULD have placed it alongside the bags to be sent out, but for reasons unknown he decided to almost hide it next to one of the desks at the far end of the baggage hall. Not good.

The MedView flight left late (again) last night and 609 bags DIDN'T travel. 1128 did.

Everyone at Gatwick is thoroughly pissed off with this airline, apart from the CEO - apparently the passengers spend so mucg in duty free that he insists that it is kept open until the last passenger has boarded...

Last night 70 passengers DIDN'T board as the flight had been oversold. Cue riots at check-in and mass attendance by Sussex police.

Until today, no flight has been delayed due to me sending the bags out late. Today, 12 were delayed.  noooo: I phoned the overall Baggage Manager at 0830 and told him we were about the run into a stinking pile of shite unless we had more staff. He turned up, along with both Duty Managers, the Ramp Manager, a Ramp Duty Manager and three blokes from the ramp. And still all the bags went out late - by up to 50 minutes. Appalling.

By the time they left 3 hours later, they were totally knackered and were muttering about "we really need to resolve this headcount issue..."

No shit. The next 3 days of my shift promise to be exactly the same. Merry fucking Christmas  Xmas4:
