Orange's oldest is 16.5 years. Average age 9.5. Average age of a A320 (like G-GATR) is 7.7.

Looking at yesterday's figures, it seems like the dam finally broke and it all turned to shit. Over 100 delays purely down to lack of baggage loaders. The afternoon Pafos flight, for example, delayed by 3 1/4 hours as simply no-one available to load the bags.

Relying on people to do overtime was never going to work long term - people are knackered and unwilling to see so much of their hard earned handed over to the treasury to waste.

And we haven't even hit the school holidays yet...

 ta

When I used to fly a lot I'd make a (sad) habit of looking at that plate on the doorway that says when originally made.  First time I saw I was getting on a 25 year old one I went  eeek:

Seems nowadays they really sweat the assets so they get taken out through too many cycles limitations.  And I guess fuel efficiency is more important too.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Another shift finished, another display of ineptitude, last minute cancellations and general misery. No dead passengers/staff though so that's a bonus. School holidays start at the end of the week - or probably now as schools are closing as it's a bit warm (teachers never miss a chance to bunk off themselves) - and I am back Friday morning for another 4 days in purgatory.

Bed soon, firstly need to have sufficient nightcaps to ensure I sleep through the worst of the heat. I expect to wake up to the sound of ambulance sirens and a massively reduced population... ::)

We need extra capacity. Due to the economic uncertainty the big O has taken a justifiable decision to lease in extra temporary capacity in the form of wet-lease, or ACMI (Aircaft, Crew, Maintenance & Insurance) outfits, rather than taking all the new aircraft they've ordered and all the attendant crew. Demand may well fall off a cliff when the full impact of inflation/fuel price rices hits hard, cheaper to offload the ACMI company.

First, we had SmartLynx who supply, basically 78.5 tonne paperweights - if one of their aircraft actually manages to complete a full days schedule, it is a miracle. These frames have passed through multiple hands and are basically hounds - they won't fall out of the sky - but that is because they don't get off the ground. And the interiors are utterly yukky, more chewing gum than carpet. The remote stands in Gatwick are littered with these white knackers awaiting tech fixes.

Now we have a new additional supplier - Avion Express - and so far they've been pretty good. Despite the purple carpet and sidewalls (ex Wizz Air birds) Nick would probably like them  lol:

The next month promises to be utterly shite, but the double pay + bonus for overtime remains and staffing levels are gradually getting up to where they should have been 2 months ago, so a sliver of light emerges.
