Well that's the first of my "new" 6 (days on) and 3 (days off) shift over with. 3 earlies (03:45-12:45) then 3 laters (12.30-21.30) then 3 off. Very nice and I tend to miss the horrible traffic being caused by the work on the A23 and M23.

Getting up at 01:45 is fairly unpleasant but overall an improvement on what I was on before.

Iraqi Airlines is one of ours now and they do not seem to have baggage weight limits. Very few are under 28kgs and the highest so far is 53 kgs. That's almost as much as Nick's chins weigh...oh and they have also been shot at whilsr trying to land at Baghdad recently.

Still, they pay good money; 1 Iraqi turnaround=8 Sleazyjets.

As for Turkish Airlines...

Most excellent!  Thumbs:

Do you get to prise stowaways from the undercarriage too....?

I think the flight goes via Malmo first, so they would get to do that.

Turkish Airlines now have to follow an Airfield Ops Leader vehicle to and from the runway as in the past month they have caused 3 major incidents

Incident 1 : Airbus A321, pilot told to hold to allow the oncoming Emirates Boeing 777-300 to taxi along Lima then Papa (taxiways) towards the runway. The Turkish Airlines pilot ignored this and continued then swung into the vacant stands 51, 52 & 53 with the Emirates passing along its starboard side  eeek: Witnesses say that the wing tips of the planes were less than 20 feet apart and the other wing of the A321 narrowly missed the airbridges on the stands it was driving across.

Incidents 2 & 3. The Turkish Ailines pilots misunderstood the instructions from the tower and taxied straight onto the runway rather than turning east and joining the queue to take-off. This resulted in 2 planes having to "go around" as they were on final approach and the Turkish planes were blocking the runway...

The funniest thing is that the pilots are now complaining that they are "being treated like children"  ;D

I'd treat them like "don't darken our runways again"

Turkish Airlines...again.

On Saturday, one of their 737-800's landed rather heavily at Gatwick, for reasons unknown - it was a lovely day with very light winds.

The hard landing buckled one of the wheels (so badly that it locked up as it was taxiing to the stand) and bent the undercarriage  eeek:

The captain still wanted to make the return flight with it  eeek:

It is currently sitting on stand 102, up on blocks while repairs are undertaken. It must be costing them a small fortune as it has been taking up a main stand for over 2 days...

To be fair, I flew to Istanbul with them and it was a great flight...

And their business lounge there must be one of the best in the world!

The last flight out for us is the 21:15 to Belfast. Due to its very nature, some of the final bags arrive a bit late and have to be rushed to the plane, long after the official 30 minutes prior to take-off  that all bags are meant to be at the plane.

Yesterday, 2 bags popped down the chute at 20.55 - and I know the check-in people should have told the two passengers that they were too late in the first instance - but the bags were there and as the boarding gate was close to check-in, the chances are the passengers would have made it to the plane.

I sped my electric buggy (max 20mph...) to the plane and arrived at exactly 21:00. As the plane was pushing back...

I spoke to the flight dispatcher and asked why it was pushing back 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. "The captain wanted to get off early". Guess he wanted a pint or two in Belfast.

And we stand to lose part of our bonus as the bags didn't make the flight.

Shameful.  cussing:

A clue: They basically own Gatwick now. What they want they get...
