I suspect a deficiency of Guinness and Youngs

I've not had any Young's bitter for probably 3 years. My very local posh Young's pub is tooooooo expensive. Last I heard, Ordinary was about £4.50. Guinness £6.40.

I prefer to go early to the Wetherspoon's - before the oiks or coffin dodgers turn up. Guinness £3.19. 4 pints, bit of shopping, home before midday. Also has the benefit of avoiding seeing the flabbery of a lot of the local oiks. Food/starvation crisis my arse!

Thanks, but no need to worry - I'm inside most of the time - either the air conditioned office, or the baggage sorting area with the speedoors open to give some ventilation, as the air conditioning can't cope with a huge, tin roofed building.

Most nights I spend 1800-2000 in the office sorting stuff out and getting the aircraft cleaners off and busy, then I take my 2000 finish bag pullers to the South Terminal (where their car park is) ciggie with big Z on the way back, more admin shite, take the 2100 finishers back to the South, more admin shite, take the 2200 finishers back to the South, more admin shite until about 2315 then another ciggie with big Z before I start auditing how clean some of the completed aircraft are. Will finish that about 0215, brief my 0300 bag pulling bunch and may end up helping there (depending on staff numbers) until 0530, utterly knackered. Within the baggage sorting area, there are 6 lines where 49 different flight bags come down during a day.  We were very short of staff Wednesday morning, so I shifted all the bags on one line, to stop things getting behind. First 3 flights were Funchal, some place called Paphos, Kefalonia and then 6 "little" flights - Charles de Gaulle, Basel, Lyson, Edinburgh, Belfast and Geneva. I probably pulled 400 bags in an hour and a half and by god, it felt good.

Didn't feel so good when I crawled out of bed at 1500, later that day. Body was hurty. Sucks this getting old shit, dunnit?

If you're half way fit and a stubborn old goat, chucking lots of bags is easy. I could do it all day and if the basic wages were better, I would. As you are well aware, it's the management side of it that is the biggest headache. Petty schoolgound squabblng, dealing with skivers, trying to organise sufficient cover/overtime to make it all work (sort of) disciplinary/accident investigations. All that shite.

Well at least it's over 30 miles from TMR but what the fuck next?

https://news.sky.com/story/heathrow-asks-airlines-to-cancel-10-of-flights-today-as-airport-faces-baggage-backlog-12637228

'Heathrow has asked airlines to cancel 10% of their flights today as the airport faces a baggage backlog.

Problems with the baggage system left hundreds of travellers waiting for over three hours during the weekend to retrieve their luggage, with no explanation from staff.'
Well, whatever, nevermind

Well, we don't currently have any baggage problems systems wise, just staffing wise. Like everyone else, simply not enough of them.

Life is not a competition, but ineveitably with my gang doing one half of the shift and the "other" side do the other half, there are always comparisons to be made and a tacit rivalry. My half of the shift just completed 4 days with very few delays resulting from our efforts. The "other" side starting this morning...a quick look at what's happened since I left reveals they have already caused 2 fuck ups.

Some staff are doing so much overtime, they are grossing 7k a month  eeek:

Yup. Work 13 hours for 3 of your 4 days off (at double time + £50 per day) then a day off. Repeat.

Indeed. And the amount of tax they are paying so that the gubbnment can spunk it on utter shite makes me question their sanity. Most I will do is 39 hours, above that the taxation vs. reward is marginal.
