As was entirely predictable to everyone not brain-dead, this chilly snap is resulting in utter carnage in Gatwick. Not enough de-icing trucks/staff. Menzies Aviation found wanting, yet again. Sacked during the pointless lockdowns, the experienced staff never returned, who'd have thunk it?

The 0710 to Pafos still hasn't gone yet...that will mean a crew change as the initial ones will be out of hours to return...probably end up cancelled as there are not enough standby crew.

So far 45 hours worth of delay, not including the aircraft stll on the ground hours after they should have left.  End of day, easliy treble it. 3rd wave must be chopped now to ensure 1st wave tomorrow. The de-icers are paid £22/hr, not a bad wage. The rest of the year most of them return to "normal" ramp duties - loading bags into aircraft etc.

It's what I see daily at work - no-one actually wants to work anymore. Just take a wage for doing the very minimum.

I guess the problem is as the UK always has such lovely weather , when it gets a bit cold they are not expecting it........
