It was fine ...I now just have to find a way of letting him down gently.

Turns out he only split from his partner about 4 months ago and I don't think he is anywhere near over it yet though he begs to differ and wants to plan the next night out and I am already thinking of plausible excuses not to go  redface:

Get a picture of Miss C in dungarees, wellies and a woollen hat and send it to him as being your partner, thanking him for the opportunity to explore, and reject, your straight side.

I am sure that would give him the message.
