Last Christmas, among many other gifts, I received five pairs of socks.
Those who know me also know I seldom wear socks but I confess during the cold of winter I do don the old feet warmers before venturing out. This is usually because in winter I wear something, shoe-wise, other than my habitual deck shoes. (This is all by the way of background)
To return to my gifted five pairs of socks. They are all black but each pair has a different colour to the toe and heel and on the ankle of each pair is, in matching colour to the toe and heel, embroidered the day of the week.
I have to go out later today "suited and booted" and have polished the black "Oxfords" (including instep as old habits die hard) to a high gloss, brushed the suit, selected a shirt and tie and then turned to my sock drawer. My new "daily" socks confronted me.
Why can I not bring myself to wear anything other that the pair embroidered with the word "Monday"?
Tuesday's pair look a bit miffed, Wednesday's pair have never been on my feet, Thursday's pair are sulking at the back of the drawer and Friday's pair seem to have lost the will to live for they know I shall never wear them. What the fvck I'll do if I ever need to wear socks on a Saturday or Sunday I have no idea as the makers of these excellent coverings of one's pedular extremities do not seem to provide for those who may be going to a wedding (Saturdays usually) or to Church on a Sunday.
But today is Monday, I need to wear socks and I
cannot wear any other than "Monday's" selection!
Is it just me?
