They are catholic. Perhaps it was the Holy Ghost or summat. So why didn't the Pope get a result?

I should say, that as a dad myself it must be frightful, but the hysteria and incompetence surrounding this whole thing is weird. I know that we are the most surveilled (?) nation on the planet (except N. Korea) but if they had the same amount of CCTV over there, this would have been over long ago. Worrying.

If there was any kind of link whatsoever between CCTV and crime detection I would be in favour of it.

But there isn't and I'm not.

Well true, I have seen some, but not much. but a CCTV pointed at the door or window (or them) might have given some clues. Car? Person?

But there isn't and I'm not.

In my experience at the very beginning of CCTV installation moved some problems to areas without cameras. Then the police cottoned onto another way of sitting on their collective arse and watching crime at a safe distance. It didn't take the criminals long to work out the response times and, to be honest it took the graffiti merchants even less time to discover a whole new audience for their "art".
Most CCTV images are not admissible in court as evidence anyway and the whole thing is a waste of time, space and money BUT it does enable politicos and senior policemen to say "We are doing something"

A friend of mine was mugged near Aldgate tube a while back. It was caught on CCTV, the mugger wasn't caught.
