The popular theory seems to be that all doctors routinely drug their kids before going out on the lash.

They then (allegedly) got the dose wrong, kid pegs it, massive cover up, Columbo (three months later) asks just one more question, busted.

Personally I'd simply rather they found the little mite safe and well, but I think that train of thought has long since gone tbh.
