Their names are mud. Everyone they meet already knows about them and even if left unspoken affects everything in their lives. They did wrong but they've had to suffer for it everyday of the past 15 years. I couldn't cope in the same circumstance.

On that logic Ian Brady and Myra Hindley should never have been found guilty and imprisoned as 'all the blame' was on the parents who didn't keep their children in their sight at all times.

You reduce the risk to your kids to the absolute minimum that you possibly can while letting them live as normal a life as possible.
