Techi Brain Picking
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:31:30 AM »
Laptop (Dell) belonging to Minimus.
Battery is fully discharged .... so why won't it take a charge?
Why won't the bloody thing run when the charger is plugged in?

I have tried two different chargers both on his machine and mine.
Both chargers are OK.

Your thoughts please.

Yes I know "scrap it" is a likely problem solver but that would lead onto buying a new one ..... to be avoided if pos.
New battery can be obtained on line for £25 (Not Dell battery but "compatible") but I don't want to do that unless I can be half way sure it will work.
Could there be another problem?
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

When battery removed and mains disconnected press power button for 20 seconds to discharge
Then try powering up laptop with battery removed but mains connected.

Could be that power input bit is gubbed.

{serious} On my old laptop, the middle pin on the power socket thingy broke off. You could plug in the mains adaptor but nothing happened[/serious]

I don't think you could describe it as a laptop...  ::)

Done that ~ and it would seem that the power input on the laptop is prolly gubbed.

Tried same thing with an alternative charger and still no joy but as I said both power cables work on my lap-top so they would seem to be OK.

My laptop did the same thing a while back Snoop. I found that unplugging it, taking the battery out and leaving it overnight seemed to sort out whatever was causing the problem.

The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.
