Thats just wrong

No matter where you stand on the Harry Potter books, reading the last chapter of the final book out to your pupils in assembly is just cruel, no matter how you justify it. The last thing kids reading the book would want is someone telling them how it ends.

Imagine doing that to Wenchy..................................hmm actually I dont think any of us would have had that much of a death wish come to think of it.  eeek:

A headteacher caused some distress by reading to about 400 children from the last page of the final Harry Potter book at a primary school in Somerset.
One pupil at St John's School in Midsomer Norton is reported to have covered his ears after head teacher Carolyn Banfield began the reading.

Another child said: "They didn't want to hear it that much - they said that spoils the book."

The school said the passage reflected the theme of saying goodbye.

It added that the it felt the reading would not spoil the children's enjoyment and that the text was used as a way of illustrating how uncertainty can sometimes accompany new beginnings.

It is unclear exactly what passage was read from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on the last day of term.

Ms Banfield is currently on holiday.
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

Proof once again that teachers talk down to children in this continuing dumbing down process without thought to the harm, hurt and disappointment they cause to those in their care.  The same "lessons" could have been demonstrated by passages read from Dickens, Shakespeare or dare I mention it ~ the Bible, any of which would have broadened horizons and perhaps even persuaded one kid to pick up a copy of David Copperfield.

It is time the teaching profession (and I know it puts bread on many tables on this board, my own included) got its head out of its arse and started doing what we pay it to do. Educate our children
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
